Useful Projects prepared the sustainable development strategy for the Carbonera beach resort and development in Cuba.

At a time when Cuba is opening up to economic development, the challenge is to do this in a way that builds on a heritage that has conserved the environment and been founded on strong social goals.

The strategy sets out specific objectives for the project based on an analysis of the local context and a review of international best practice on similar resort developments. It has been prepared to advise our client on how best to deliver sustainable development, and is particularly focused on integration with the local village of Carbonera and improvements in the environmental performance of the buildings.

Our sister company, Expedition Engineering have been appointed as Technical Coordinator for the development and are working with the masterplanning architect, EPR and the Cuban development partner to provide technical advice and to develop the water and energy strategies.
