In May 2017 we welcomed a group of senior leaders from across Commonwealth countries, and facilitated a workshop on addressing the energy challenge at the city scale. The workshop was part of the CSC Leaders programme, a global leadership initiative to support governments, businesses and NGOs in addressing challenges that transcend national boundaries.
In the workshop we introduced Useful Projects’ framework for sustainable development and considered the challenge of building consensus around sustainability visions. Some key themes which framed the session include:
- The interconnected nature of energy infrastructure and wider sustainable development
- Challenges around delivering energy interventions which provide multiple benefits
- New and emerging governance models.
Delegates were encouraged to reflect on their role in the transformation of their own cities and to consider what resources would be required in order to instigate meaningful change.
