Glasgow District Regeneration

Client:
Glasgow City Council
Role:
Sustainable Urbanism Consultancy
Status:
Complete

We are working with Glasgow City Council and Austin-Smith:Lord Architects to develop a set of District Regeneration Frameworks (DRFs) for four neighbourhoods to the east of Glasgow City Centre.

Each of the nine districts in Glasgow city centre has or will have a District Regeneration Framework – essentially, a plan for short, medium and long-term actions to be delivered that will bring economic, environmental and social improvements to the area.  The DRFs are created with input from local communities, organisations and a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team of consultants, including Space Syntax, Urban Movement and Studio for New Realities, our role is to develop a sustainability framework for the DRFs, and to act as an experienced and creative ‘critical friend’ to the project team, to ensure the application of international best practice to deliver a thriving city – based on a sustainable, healthy and inclusive environment, a strong community and a resilient economy.

Our framework (in draft) draws on examples of international and local best practice in sustainable urbanism, and covers the critical themes of energy and carbon, circular economy and waste, nature and biodiversity and transport and logistics, alongside social value, community engagement and health and wellbeing.

Useful Projects team members Judith and Carrie have written a blog on the project website where they discuss acting as “…an experienced and creative ‘critical friend’ to the project team, to ensure the application of international best practice to deliver a thriving city – based on a sustainable, healthy and inclusive environment, a strong community and a resilient economy”.
