We supported the University of Westminster Summer Works programme by providing SKA HE services on two major refurbishment projects which took place during summer 2017, across multiple sites. SKA HE is RICS’s latest environmental assessment tool, designed specifically for the higher education sector to achieve best practice in sustainable refurbishment.
The refurbished spaces included classrooms, lecture theatres and the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment workshop (Fabrication laboratory). Each type of space presented its own challenges and opportunities and we worked closely with both the design team and the university sustainability department, to deliver against their sustainability ambition – both projects achieved a SKA Bronze rating and are the first certified projects for the university.
As part of the service we advised on strategies and approaches to reduce construction waste, source materials responsibility and implement an effective Soft Landings process.
