Team London Bridge (TLB) is a Business Improvement District containing more than 50,000 workers across 350+ businesses, including the UK’s fourth busiest railway station, making it one the most important business centres in the UK.
Following the London Borough of Southwark’s announcement in July 2021 to become carbon neutral by 2030, Useful Projects and xtonnes were commissioned by TLB to develop a Decarbonisation Routemap for London Bridge, supporting their ambition to become one of the most sustainable areas in the world for business and tourism.
Area-wide zero carbon
As part of this process, xtonnes measured the area’s carbon footprint using their carbon footprinting software to help assess where the biggest emissions come from. This analysis enabled us to identify emission hotspots across sectors and activities, allowing us to promote targeted interventions which would have the greatest effect in reducing carbon usage.
The Routemap is based on the footprint data and engagement with key members of the London Bridge community, developing actions and interventions required to be zero carbon. The final output includes area-wide zero carbon initiatives lead by TLB, as well as projects to support individual businesses in their decarbonisation journeys.
Following the Decarbonisation Routemap’s launch in June 2022, we have continued working with TLB to implement its recommendations. This has included the creation of a Net Zero Steering Group made up of individuals from local businesses, landlords, and Southwark Council.
